I realize theres a lot of similar topics out there, but I just want to make sure...
So if I pop a quadcore processor into my optimus enabled laptop (clevo b7130) - it should run ok and all I'm loosing is the intel video function which comes with dual core P/i5/i7 processors? Has anyone attempted this successfully? Tnx.

yes, it works fine, as it's meant to be. You'll use both nVidia and Intel GPUs through Optimus technology. (On windows!)

On Linux it is more problematic, as nVidia Optimus cards still aren't supported. Then you have to do some workaround to use the Intel iGPU.

Optimus wasn't compatible with quad cores on the last generation of Core I?

    I would never expect that...

First gen Core i7 quads did not have the Intel IGP on it, that was added when we got Arrendale dual cores.

hmm got it. At that time I was pretty much away from what Intel was plotting. Just got to it this year and current Sandy Bridge.

So the answer to the topic is "no". Just to be clear to the author.

So what you fellas are telling me is that although the CPUs (I7-940XM or 840m for example) are compatible with the board, Nvidia GPU will not run on its own without Optimus thingie? Bummer.

Since all the display outputs are wired to the on-board chip, you wont get a display.

Well thanks for the info, guess I'll have to settle for i7-640m then.
