I am looking at getting a X61s but I just found out that the only docking option for it doesn't support DVI out.

I have the Dell 2407, and would love to get a 3rd party port replicator with DVI out that could handle that resolution. So far, al I can find is some that supports 1600x1200 ... have anyone here seen some that supports higher resolutions?

The only 3rd party docks are going to run via a USB or ExpressCard slot. None of those can actually support that resolution. The bandwidth demand is just too great.

BTW: How's the 2407? I've got one on backorder, and I'm wondering if it is worth the wait?

I'm not sure about a dock that can output that resolution. That may be a wild goose chase.

The most likely to be able to do it (and I'm still fairly sure it can't) is that docking station that the Asus V1/V2 series has.

I think you're better off getting a notebook with a DVI-D or HDMI output and go straight into your LCD when you need it--particularly if you want to run at that resolution.
