I currently own a 372GB or something like that Western Digital portable hard drive. I'm looking for something with more capacity 800gb - 1TB AND works with my WD Media Player. I also run Windows XP or 7, depending on the computer I'm on.
I've been looking on Best Buy and the reviews for the WD hard drives are not too favorable. Seagate seems to be better, per the reviews, but I'm now confused which way to go. Or is there another you can recommend?
All responses are appreciated.

I wouldn't put 1KB of data on a Seagate External HDD.
Hitachi, WD would be my preferred choices. Don't know about WD Media Player - sorry.
What I would recommend is whatever you do decide to buy, buy two of (and, ideally, different brands/makes): (the identical data will be on both - one backing up the other) and rotate them on a daily, weekly or monthly basis (depending on how often you create/update your data) with one being located at an (ideally) different location than your notebook and/or other external(s).
Seagate for backups? Lol... -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
For starters, reviews are always biased. Only really happy people and really angry people do reviews, you don't get the median.
All manufacturers have the same failure rates as statistics have shown. My personal preference is WD, their RMA process is better than all other companies. I have a 250 GB Seagate Freeagent entering it's 5th year of service, no hiccups and that external has been dropped, kicked around. -
I had one of those seagate 320 gig hdds and I used it for "backups." Well it failed with a lot of new stuff on it that I didn't get to copy over. I had it for one year and like 5 months.. No drops and always rode in a nice fluffy compartment that my laptop bag had made for stuff like that. I bought mine from kmart for like 50 bucks.. I would definitely go with WD. I have read nothing but good reviews for WD.

I've never had a problem with any of my Seagate drives, whether notebook or desktop.
As Tsunade mentioned, WD has an excellent RMA system. Of the all the hard drives I've owned over the years the only one to fail on me was a 160GB WD external. It was easily replaced through warranty.
So, in short, all HDDs have about the same reliability. WD just has a awesome RMA system for when you fall victim to statistics. No experience with Seagate, Samsung, or Hitachi RMAs, since they haven't failed on me. -
I have WD My Book and it's worked great except for the power adapter which died after 2 months. Even though i had bought it in a different region and warranty wasn't valid as a result , they sent me a replacement adapter but took 6 weeks in total to get here... Other then that , its worked perfectly now. Nothing wrong with seagate but i would get which is cheaper.
