Possibility that R9 M295X/M395X has XDMA support?

Just postulating a theory here...every picture I can find of tonga based MXM cards from AMD shows no more crossfire connector...and I think I just realized why. Starting with tonga/GCN3, AMD did away with the crossfire bridge and just moved everything over to XDMA PCIe communication.

So...if I were to pick up 2 R9 M295X cards...you think they would work XDMA mode, since they are full Tonga cores? Maybe that's why there is no CF connector on the cards?

Were the M295X and M395X offered on any computers other than the 5K Retina iMac?

Just the Alienware 15 R1 and R2 and the Dell Precision M7710 (as the Firepro W7170m). Only Zentrica and (on ebay) blairsville-tech-support sell the MXM cards.
I mean, if the R9 285, R9 380, and R9 380X support XDMA, I don't see why AMD would remove that feature from the mobile GPUs. However, given the card's cost, it may be risky to test if it does or not.

Well, the chances to find out about the GPUs in question are next to none*, but I do hope that we'll get to see whether or not it has XDMA with Polaris. Although, there's always the possibility I thought a couple of years ago:

Wonder if there's an AW 15/17 user with R9-M295X that had such thought :)

*Since not readily available to buy as main reason.

Actually, WDL systems sells the R9 M295X mxm card here in the USA...pricey though ($450)...I'm so tempted to test given we have zero news on Polaris mobiles and nvidia is no longer giving out reference design for MXM pascal...there may be no more MXM cards.

    http://www.wdlsystems.com/GPU/MXM/TUL-R9-M295X-MXM-Graphics-Card.html

They have a spec sheet too:

    http://www.wdlsystems.com/core/media/media.nl?id=416827&c=3401285&h=c5c9b31f98b167961f4f
    Highlights:
*125W TDP, but unknown total power consumption
    * LVDS is in the spec sheet, so it may work in laptops
    * No mention of XDMA

Don't know if I want to deal with a 125W GPU though...980M blows as is.

They have almost the same Vendor part# E295MF-TJ, where the Zentrica's is E295MF-TK. I think that at some point it was the same, since I used the Zentrica's one to see if anyone offered their GPUs, and this very site came among the couple of results (the other one was understandably Zentrica). Anyway at least it's place to buy. As for Polaris - there's just a bit more than half a month wait, let's see what happens when that NDA lifts :)

Well then, this is good to know. Didn't know somebody else sold the GPU.
But yeah, $884+ for two R9 m295x is a bit steep. Escpially with Polaris coming soon, but who knows if the prices of these GPUs will drop (even if they are the R9 m485x).

why even bother? 980m is faster than the 295x

Absolutely. Even the 7970M/8970M surpasses the 780M now

Because unlike nVidia, AMD continues to optimize the GCN architecture while nVidia gimps whatever is not current.
