Every now and then... lately like 3 times a day... My laptop will lock up.

Mainly when I open a new program, it wil lock up and the screen will get all boxy and shake violently.

Once it displayed a BSOD after a while that said hardware failure.

When I get home I am going to try new graphics drivers and memtest86+... Seeing as I figure it's more than likely one of those two.

Anyone else have any good ideas on what it could be?

I just installed vista 64 ult, and 4gb of Kingston ram as well. So i'm hoping the ram didn't already go down the toilet.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but from your sig it appears that you have a nvidia 8600gt GPU. Failure rates for these have been so high that many manufacturers have increased the warranty periods for laptops with these GPU's. Check with yours, you may be in luck.

Does it sound like a video card issue?

If so, I'll call tech support tomorrow and see what's up.
