I'm looking at this USB dongle I have; a Bluetooth EDR, supposedly 100 ft range, and I'm wondering if there's a way to take it apart and replace the Blutooth Truemobile 350 module in my Dell I9200, which has a range of only 30 ft, with this one.
The USB BT dongle circuit board is the same as the Dell True Mobile module, but it has fewer contacts on it. The current installed Bluetooth is tied into the USB hub, according to the device manager.
I was wondering if this was something anyone here has ever tried.

Should be possible I think. Range might be reduced because it would be inside the case. I think the True Mobile device has a connection to an external antenna and thats why it has more contacts. The USB dongle should have the antenna build in somehow.

They both appear to have the same antenna; a printed metal "zig-zag" pattern on the end of the circuit board. I believe that serves as the antenna in each of them.
The Dell module has a tin sheild soldered over most of the board, making it impossible to trace the cable interface.
Possible to replace current internal BT module with a USB EDR?
