Hey, so I have a base model Toshiba A205. exact model is A205 S5800. It doesn't have s-video out, but i took it apart to replace the cpu, and found that there is a place where the s-video could have been soldered in if it were a better model. So, I'm wondering if i soldered in a s-video connection to the place on the motherboard, if it would detect it and work. seems crazy to me, but i'm up to the challenge if anyone thinks its possible. Also, where would i find a laptop s-video motherboard connector? Thanks!

Just purchase a VGA to S-Video converter box. Much easier to do and guaranteed to work.

yeah, i thought about that. but its a bit expensive and i'd rather not have a thing hanging off of my laptop. anybody else know if this is possible?

What's the video card in your computer?

    It may be possible.

If you try it, please let me know how it went.
I have a toshiba and I cheaped out and didn't get the serial port. I see the space for one and I know where to solder it, I could maybe follow in your footsteps.

The computer itself may have other bits and pieces of circuitry or code missing that prevents S-Video from working. You're better off with that VGA/S-Video cable.

yeah dude, i might. as long as i solder it carefully, i doubt it would hurt anything. the worst i'd find out is that it simply doesn't work.

    I tried simmilar things.

First I tried adding an internal mic. It didn't work.

Then I tried adding an i-link (firewire) port, again it didn't work (probably because I dont have the controller on my motherboard).

It won't work. If all it took was soldering in the port, your computer would recognize the port already.

no, thats not right. Because you can enable ports using a program called BAR-Edit.

It's simmilar to taping off the sata pins on your motherboard to add another HDD.

Can you expand on that? I can't find anything at all about doing that or that program.

And what makes you think that video controllers are the same as sata controllers?

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the s-video controlled by the MHC of the chipset.

@OP, what chipset do you have?

EDIT: Also can you see if the solder points have tracks comming off them, if they do then you could follow the tracks to see what they lead to. If the tracks lead to nothing (broken tracks) then you will know it will not work.
But if the tracks lead to the northbridge or some chip, then you may stand a chance.

You should use a DMM to do continuety tests when the tracks lead to holes.
Since when the tracks lead to holes that means they are changing layers on the motherboard. So you need to do tests to see which hole they come out of.
