Is there any possibility of doing this? or is it fundamentally different?

    Thanks.

I doubt it. You're looking at a completely different form factor.

There might be some kind of adapter (or it should be possible to make one) to connect a normal SATA drive to an mSATA slot, but there's no way to make a 2.5" drive fit in a laptop's mSATA bay, given the large size difference.

Going the other direction, there are definitely adapter/caddies that will allow you to put an MSATA drive in a 2.5" bay.

The size and shape of the PCB is entirely different, so basically, no. Is it possible to hook a SATA drive to a mSATA port if there is an adapter for it, yup, is it possible to fit a regular SATA SSD in the space dedicated to a mSATA SSD, not a chance in hell.

there is a way but all data will be lost, it is a very simple 2 step conversion

    1) sell the crucial M4

    2) buy an mSATA SSD with all the money you get from selling

    0) Backup data to a different storage device.

There, I solved the data loss problem. Now pay my consulting fees.

combination of 0s and 1s are pricey and valuable lol

(own argument: same for physical money, its a printed piece of cheap paper that is pricey)

In all seriousness though, depending on the user and the data in question, the user might find the data irreplaceable in the event of a loss. Always back your stuff up, full stop(!).

I would just search for "mSATA adapter" and look for something with good reviews. Newegg.com - msata adapter
