Is it possible to upgrade or downgrade the resolution of a laptop screen? Is it possible to change a 1440x900 resolution to 1920X1200? And vice versa?

Much will depend on the laptop you have, but you didn't tell.

    It's a HP elitebook 8740w. HP has sold the laptops with a 1440x900 and a 1920X1200 resolution.

with a little work it shouldnt be bad to dismantle the screen assembly and change the LCD's in the NON IPS version. just order the other panel from hp or find a comparable part #
