The AS-SSD Copy benchmark is a benchmark that makes it easy to compare HDDs and SSDs. The Copy test simulates a file copy, which is as good as a real world test.
Here's my result for a WD6400BEVT 5400rpm:
![]()
When the MB/sec scores are added together the score is 96. Please add your MB/sec numbers together and mention it in your post.
To run the benchmark:
Download AS-SSD here: http://www.alex-is.de/PHP/fusion/downloads.php?cat_id=4&download_id=9
Make sure Windows is in High performance mode and Intel Rapid Storage Driver is installed.
Please post only results achieved on a notebook. No desktops.
To reduce wear on your SSD only run the copy benchmark, and only run it once.

Where do I get the latest the Intel Rapid Storage driver?
Would you install it if you were me? I googled it and people say that wiper doesn't work with it so it's a bad idea for SSDs. Is this still true. Do I ever need to use Wiper, or can I just rely on TRIM on FreeSpaceCleaner?
I never bothered to install it and these are the results I get...
Should I install the Intel Rapid Storage driver? Or am I better off keeping my SSD on the stock Crucial 1916 firmware and msahci driver to be able to use wiper? -
-
The sequential write was about 110 MB/s when I got it about two weeks ago, but today it was like 40 MB/s. The 4K read and write are very low too.
The sequential read is still decent like 230 MB/s and the boot up time and loading programs seem to be very fast.
I'm replacing it with a Vertex 2 60GB tomorrow as I can still use this Kingston for my backup laptop.
BTW, I'm using a 9.6.0.1014 RST driver. -

tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
I just ran this and got a score of 269 for a 100GB Inferno.
Just curious how long this copy test took for others: I saw about 2:45 (MM:SS) from start to finish for 'timed' tests that add up to less than 47 seconds.
I know the program is creating the test files but does this time stay standard or does it depend on the drive used?
Curious to see how this aspect of the test compares with others. -
Can you post a screenshot too?
I just did a run that took 4:44, the seconds added together is 2:32. -
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Phil,
Here is a re-run:
274.39 MB/s of the 3 runs.
43.51 seconds 'timed tests'.
2:40 (MM:SS) total run time.
With screen shot this time.
This is of course my Inferno 100GB SandForce based SSD.Attached Files:

Here is my Hitachi 7K500 results too.
IRST 1046:
158.86 MB/s of the 3 runs.
75.93 seconds 'timed tests'.
2:27 (MM:SS) total run time.
MSAHCI v1.0:
149.87 MB/s of the 3 runs.
80.27 seconds 'timed tests'.
2:35 (MM:SS) total run time.
What is interesting here is that the Hitachi is 13 seconds faster to complete the test (compared to the Inferno SSD with same IRST drivers) even though the timed tests themselves take almost twice as long on the Hitachi.
Another point of interest: the Hitachi is on a Core 2 Duo platform while the Inferno is on an i3 based one. Both 8GB RAM and 2.26 GHz nominal clock rates (cpu). IRST 1046 WHQL drivers used on both.Attached Files:

No, not only is the platform/notebook a determining factor but also how it is setup and also the AHCI/IRST drivers used (as seen in my 7K500 example).
I just want to point out that I set up my mechanical HD's as noted here:
See:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-hitachi-7k500-benchmark-setup-specifics.html
The short version: I set the fastest part of the platters as my 'T' drive and point all Temp files there (64GB size).
If the AS SSD copy benchmark uses this first partition for its testing - this may explain my 'scores' here (even if others are using a faster cpu/platform than I). -

dlai,
Thanks for providing the times of your scores - but I would be interested in the total time that the copy test takes to run.
(I can calculate the 'timed' scores - but the time the complete test takes to run seems like it would be beneficial to know too). -
Sony TT 1.8 256GB Samsung SSD PB22- CS3 FDE with TRIM. The 2.5 128GB variant should result in slightly better times. My scores though were 313 for the both and i've had my TT on all day.
The 1st is my 1st run in high performance mode and in balanced mode in the vaio control centre.
The 2nd one is in high performace mode using both profiles.
I'll come back and edit in the results for my 2.5 128GB Corsair drive with a PB22 controller that has no TRIM.
Edited to add:
I won't include these scores as I cannot install the Intel RS drivers.Attached Files:

Maybe the programs needs some time to create the file to copy. The Crucial has higher write speeds so that would make sense.

dlai,
Thank you.
I'm guessing that the 15% better time for the Crucial is because of the T9600 based W500 vs. the P8600 based X200 (16.6% difference in clock speed).
I'm also guessing that the P9600 with no idle states (vs. the P8600 with idle states) available to the cpu is also boosting the better (overall) time the Crucial is posting.

Phil, if this were true, then the Hitachi should not be faster (total time) than the Inferno, right?
2:27 vs. 2:40 (7K500/Inferno, respectively). -
Correct....
-
I assume that benchmark is not mac compatible?
I see no one use a Vertex 2 yet -

Just pointing out that that was run on a desktop system with the Win7 default drivers and the add-on card (Sata-3) drivers. In addition to not being the system boot drive (an Intel XM-V was used).
In other words, about the best you can get from the Vertex2 (except for using IRST drivers). -

This is what I got: OCZ Vertex 2 120GB (Sandforce), 1.11 firmware
thats 178.6. Btw, the first time I ran it, it was 190, then it just kept dropping. Seems like a bad test tbh. Or my drive is going down in performance really fast.
This is the usual test:

Interesting score for the Samsung 640GB HD. I have yet to see a simple increase in platter density equate to better performance since the Hitachi 7K200 several years ago.
Since this is a storage only scenario and my 7K500 is posting a better score as a system drive - I was right to assume the Samsung's only strength is simply higher capacity over the Hitachi and still can't pretend to catch the XT hybrid at all (with the nand fully populated).
I'll have to take the time in the next couple of days to see what my XT scores here - it is set up identically to the Hitachi - partitions and all. -
This is my OCZ Vertex 256 gig. PM55 chipset and ahci driver. Total is 313.
