My Sony Vaio VGC-LS1, PC/note book are on & online 24 hrs all year.

What should be the ideal setting for monitor, hard drives, standby, hibernate?

Hoping to hear your expert comments,

    Regards.

My non expert personal settings are 20 minutes across the board using standby. My recovery from standby is about 20 seconds or so to allow wireless to re-link.

I would suggest an occasional by-monthly re-start depending on which programs you run and what "state" any errant programs leave your machine in, but YMMV.

Depending on work mode I may have settings on "never' but smack down on the power button to go into standby for breaks ;)

You're running basically a desktop. Standby works because it shuts all the moving parts down. I'd say 2 hours for Standby, 1 hour for hard drive, 45 mins for monitor.

It works for me, I guess it depends on whether you have things working while you're not on the computer.
