I have a usually very reliable Sony Vaio that won't start up. I'm sure it's a power issue. The battery is probably dead, but it won't charge or boot.
Showing good voltage from the AC Adapter and thought it would start with dead battery if it was plugged in.

The connection into the notebook is a little loose, but has been for a couple of years. This unit has never failed me. I took it to work a few months ago and it sat for probably 90 days plugged in.

Any guidance before I drop a ton of money on something I don't need or try to take it apart??? Pain in the a**.

Any LED's on the Sony lit when the adapter is plugged in showing that it is receiving power?

No lights lit which makes me believe that power from adapter is not getting in.

I've jiggled the connector but no lights. So no power and no charging going on. There is voltage at the adapter connector. I guess I'll take it apart ans see where he connection is getting lost... Thanks. Any other suggestions?

Nothing other than you may have a faulty connection, which you have already figured out is probably the issue. The only other thing I can think of would be to get that battery charged some other way and test to see if it would power on with the battery.

Thanks. I was just on the Sony Support chat room with a tech and of course he said - take it to an authorized repair place. I've got better places to spend $200.

I need to figure out how to take this badboy apart and look for damage or loose connections. I'm positive that's it. I was just jiggling it around a minute ago and the battery LED started blinking, so I'm getting close.

it looks like it is just a power mis connection, i should not be very hard to replace, if you know how to use a soldering iron and a pair of screwdrivers. You should be able to find a replacement ac input socket for your laptop online for less than $5, so if you have the handyness, then go ahead and fix it, cause you have a very good chance of fixing it.
