Would the dell vostro 1500 charger work the same they it is also a 90w and the connecting pin is the same?

I have tried this also but still no power.

    warby,
there is one way to know for sure if its the power adaptor or the motherboard.

Do you have a multimeter? (voltmeter)
If yes, please use the voltmeter to see if there is any power coming out of the power supply.
If their is no power coming out of any of the combinations of pins, than the power adaptor is dead. (This is usually caused from a kinked cable)

If the power supply is outputting power and the system does not power up,
there is one of three things it can be.

    1) the dc power jack on the motherboard (the port you plug the power adaptor into, on the back of the notebook) is loose. If this jack is loose, it may not be properly connected to the motherboard.
If the jack feels loose, you can try to fix it.
You would need to take the system apart and remove the motherboard. Than you can solder the power jack back in.

    2) if the jack is properly fixed (i.e. no flex) than the problem may be something like the dc to dc circuit on the motherboard is dead. (This requires a new motherboard to fix)

    3) a crucial element like the memory is being corrupt, making the system not turn on. You can test, but rying to boot the system up with only one memory card at a time.

Exellent reply K-Tron thanks do you have any idea how much a new motherboard will be?

I took the system appart last night and the power jack seems secure to the board.

A new power adaptor is probably around $40.
You can find the part number on your current power brick. Type that number into "google shopping" and you will find a few places which have it for sale.

The motherboard is going to be expensive, probably around $200-300.
You may find better prices on ebay.
If your system is still under warranty, you may want to contact Hp to get your system fixed.
This is the only one I can find on ebay:

Its a pretty odd shaped motherboard.

well if you want you can always buy a good fatherboard to straighten her out. :D
