The other day I went to disconnect my laptop (thinkpad x61s) from AC power, but apparently the battery wasn't pushed in all the way and so I lost all power. This is a brand new computer so I'm really paranoid: Could this have done any hardware damage? I'm aware that not shutting down windows properly can result in data loss, but I'm not worried about that. I'm just worried that I might have physically damaged the harddrive by cutting power when it was spinning.
There doesn't seem to be any obvious damage, but is there anyway to check it?

You can't damage electronics due to a power outage, and I don't see why your hard drive would be damaged... The R/W heads would just stop upon power loss and start searching for data relevant to booting the OS once the computer is turned on again.

Bog, hardware can be damaged by poss loss. UPS systems are not only used for saving data, they also save hardware as it can be very hard on almost all components when the power on a system fails, especially failing repeatedly in a short time.
However to answer the topic creator's question - no, it is HIGHLY unlikely that you have done any damage. If you feel concern, run a chkdsk by going start > run > cmd and typing chkdsk /r. -
I didn't think so, I'm just really neurotic about this machine.

Youll most likely get a software corruption than hardware damage. I suggest you run checkdisk

I've run check disk twice, and each time it freezes at 82% (stage 5/5 when it's checking free space). Is this indicative of damage? What should I do?
Power loss damage?
