    Hello,
I have enjoyed this laptop immensley. Lately, however, the fan seems to be particularly loud. Strangely, it seems like it's on full force when the screen saver (which is set to 'blank') is on and the quiets down for a little bit once I sit down.

Additionally, for the first time, I'm getting HDD is higher than 55 deg warnings from nhc when I do much of anything. For example, it's happening right now as I install XP SP3.

I have the laptop sitting on an akasa notebook cooler which is more or less an aluminum 2 fan usb powered holder.

Ideas on how to get the heat down and the fan to be quiet when the computer is just sitting doing nothing at all would be greatly appreciated as would any feedback on the hdd temps.

Also, AS5 was used when laptop was purchased.

    Thanks,
    Gavin

Have you ever used a can of compressed air to blow out the vents? Do you have any pets that could get fur trapped into the fan? Try blowing out the vents (while your laptop is off so you don't damage the fan) and see if this helps.

do you need to open anything up to do that or just shoot it through the bottom of the laptop?

Just spray the compressed air through the vent on the bottom of the laptop. If you can remove a panel without voiding your warranty you can do that too. But at the very least just spray the air into the vent. Remember to have your laptop turned off while doing this too.
