Does anyone know if this would work?

I'm planning to pull out the 12.5mm Optical Drive from a laptop, and stick an HDD in its place. This much I know is possible, from another thread in this forum.

However, if I spliced a Type A USB Port onto the other end of a 15 pin SATA Power cable, would this provide enough power to run the Optical drive that I pulled out? SATA-ESATA cables are easy enough to find, so I'm not worried about the data side of things.
