Hey guys, i was just wondering..
how much pressue can these laptop touchpad take
before it actually begins to damage the touchpad itself..
i have checked out a few touchpads here and there..
what i've noticed is that there seems to be grooves in touchpads
in a few touchpads i've checked out..
i've checked out my uncle's touchpad
and there seems to be a very noticeable groove in his
i've checked out in store demos and they seem to be fine
now i've had mine for about 2 weeks now with complete care coverage
and i do fine a few grooves in my touchpad
i have tried to apply pressue to try and smooth it out
but it doesn't seem to be working
i've also tried applying alot of pressure once or twice with no avail..
should i be worried about it and basically return/exchange it
or is there a way to fix it?

Well 1stly the touchpads don;t work off pressure so presure shouldn't effect them. Although to much pressure would be bad but in the same way to much pressure is bad for anything. But i think it takes a fair amount to damage a laptops touchpad.
The touchpads work of capactitance becasue your finger or skin has slight capactitor qualities to it. Try using something metal or plastic on the touchpad and it wont work.
Im not sure what you mean exactly by grooves (is it like ripples in the surface or more like teh touchpad pulling appart leaving cracks?) as ive never seen something like that on a touchpad before but its probably not a good thing. I doubt the grooves will stop the touchpad working but might be worth giving dell a call as it could be a defect. -

I have my touch pad very sensitive, but my laptop has a touch pad on/off switch.

Well you can't actually see the grooves, but you can definitely feel them.
Thats why i was curious whether or not it was damaged.
I do have teh 1 year complete care but i don't really want to send it in..
Is it possible for them to sned out a replacement touchpad??
