First of all, I apologize if I write bad but I'm Italian and I'm using the google translator. I have an Acer Aspire 5050 and I bought a cpu AMD Turion X2 TL-60 but once installed the computer starts but stops after a few seconds. The compuer detects the processor from the bios but immediately turns off. I found a person who has the same problem http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/342929-cpu-upgrade-failure.html . If I update the bios to version 3315 can I fix? Thanks

Hi, I did once the same upgrade. The computer worked for about a week, then started to freeze randomly and one day it didn't even want to start any more. A subsequent autopsy revealed that I had assembled the computer incorrectly, but if this was the cause of death I don't know.
Have you tried to insert the original CPU again to see if it works?

If you were upgrading the CPU, then it is always advised you ensure the board is compatible with it first, and update the BIOS before physically installing the CPU. If it's a replacement of the same chip, then you shouldn't need to flash the BIOS. :)

The problem you're having may be due to the physical installation or the BIOS. My advice is to update the BIOS first, and see if the system works from there. If not, remove the CPU, check for any damaged pins/lands, and if all looks okay, reinsert it properly and carefully.

By the way - did you repaste the CPU when you installed the new one?

Sounds more like improper Thermal paste wasn't applied? Immediate shutdown is indication of bad application of thermal paste. Otherwise if not then your CPU is damaged goods or a Lemon and you need to get a replacement or have whom you bought it from give you refund and or exchange for another working CPU.

Thank you all, I updated the BIOS on my Aspire 5050 with the old processor (sempron 3500 +) and I reassembled the Turion TL-60 and I still have the same problem. In practice, the computer is turned on and reaches the Acer logo and then turns off. It's not a temperature problem because I also installed the correct amount of thermal paste. Maybe my computer does not work because the TL-60 is 65nm and my laptop only supports 90nm. In fact, there are various versions of TL-60 and I have to 65nm (Core Tyler) while my laptop supports the 90nm (Core Trinidad)

That's all a possible that it might fit but the chipset will not support the CPU as well causing the boot and shutdown but it should do it right away telling there is a problem. Are you sure the CPU is in working order? That one of the biggest problem is the small details make a big difference in upgrade as well. Just cause it looks it doesn't mean it always will work or if it fits doesn't mean it will boot or start correctly.

According to the spec sheet, the TL-60 should be compatible (see "hardware specifications and configurations" section). Manufacturing process does not play a crucial role in compatibility.

Does the Sempron still work? If so, it's either physical installation or the CPU is bad.

I made this same upgrade with my Acer Aspire 5050-3785 (from an MK-38 to a TL-60) and everything is working fine from the start. Temperatures do run a little bit warmer, even though I used a quality thermal paste. I have a few suggestions for those who planning a similar upgrade. First, get the latest BIOS installed. Second, try to get a CPU with the same TDP your laptop has now (preferably lower). There are a few different versions of the TL-60; I got the kind with the model number ending in X5DC which kept my CPU at 31 watts.

If you've already performed the CPU upgrade and you're having problems similar to those described above, ensure you reconnected the power for the fan (when you first boot the computer, the fan should spin up and be audible).

    Dbss,
cmospwd.exe /k with old cpu, then replace CPU.
