    Hello,
So I did the upgrade for my G51 laptop to T9400 yesterday. However, I notice that the temperature of Nvidia 260GTX now stays at 80 C even at idle while the cpu itself is good at 50 C. I use speed fan to check but the fan speed does not show up! Is it possible that I messed with the fan while doing the upgrade?? :(

Did you double check your connections?

I would check that first before assuming you messed up your fan.

Yes, I have just open the laptop again to check the connection. The fan works fine, and I also apply new thermal compound layer to the gpu. Now the temperature of the gpu drops to 65 C at idle. Is that temperature acceptable for a gpu at idle (no video or gaming, just web browsing)?

That is still a bit high. It will be an issue once you start stressing the GPU.

    (My GPU idles at 50C.)

Not if you are using external monitor. If you are not using than temps are high for stock ,web browsing, etc. Saying because GPU should downclock to some 200MHz core clock and lower temps to 50C.

I do use an external monitor instead of the laptop's monitor. I search all the ways on google for cooling solution, but look like applying new thermal pads is the only easy solution for me now; however I doubt if it can solve the problem.
