Hey i am having a problem installing new ram on my Sony VAIO FZ21Z Laptop which is running a genuine Windows Vista Home Premium.
Well I had 2GB of Ram, and so decided to upgrade to 3. I managed to put the Ram in with no problems but when the laptop started it froze at the loading screen and when I ran a start up fixer I got this error message:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
After that I assumed that maybe the new Ram was not compatible with my laptop. But when I went into my Bios screen it said I had 3072MB which I'm stumped about, If Bios detects the new Ram that means that its compatible right?.
My laptop has 2 Ram slots and I have tried switching between the slots but getting the same problem each time. Do you know what the problem is here?

When you go back to 2GB does it start fine?
-
Ye its fine when I put the old ram back in. The new Ram is brand new so I doubt its faulty to btw.
-
You doubt but maybe you also have doubts?
Run memtest86+ on the memory with it installed by itself and with another module. -
Put the 2GB DIMM in by itself, does it work?
-
it does, he said "Ye its fine when I put the old ram back in."
-
And if it is not the DIMM the next advice in the standard bag of tricks is BIOS update, do you have the latest. -
Okay I tried putting in the new 2GB of Ram by itself and I still had the same problem it froze at the loading screen.
I also tried the memtest86+. The test itself froze while scanning the new ram, I was forced to manually restart my laptop. I also ran the test on my old ram to be sure that the test was working but it was, it did the complete test on my old ram and it was fine. -
I would say that the new memory card has some corruptions in the nand memory chips. You should return the memory to the manufacturer for replacement. Almost all memory is warantied by lifetime replacement, so you should not have to pay anything to get a replacement memory card.

I like my low tech method as a 1st shot. I know memtest is useful but with total failure not needed. Sorry for your misfortune but at least you now have an answer and a course of action. Good luck. Post back when the new RAM works and tell us how great it is.
