Over the past 2 hours or so I have been ripping music from CDs onto my computer. The cds have been data cds and I have been opening up the cd and dragging and dropping them into the correct places.
However, the last 2 cds ive ripped have caused me some problems. When I try to rip them it seems to slow down my system CONSIDERABLY. If i have music playing the music will start skipping to a point where i cant understand anything. It even disrupts my dial up signal and will kick me off my dial up internet. If i try to connect again while still ripping the cd and the modem tries to dial the number, the dialing skips also.
I looked at my cpu usage and the graph showed that the first graph (first core) is under intense use, and the second graph is about 1/4 the total pressure.
In the last CD i ripped it came up with an error that it couldnt transfer the song because of a driver/io error or something like that.
I just did an avg virus scan, spybot scan, ad-aware scan, and tuned up my registry but it still does the same thing.
Anyone got any tips?

open your task menu, look at the processes, find the one that is eating the CPU, and endtask it, then if you still need that process re-enable it by going to the applications tab and clicking new task. type the process that you endtaked in the blank and click ok.

The problem here is that your optical drive is in PIO (Programmed Input/Output) mode.
What you need to do is to enable DMA (Direct Memory Access) mode for that IDE channel the drive is on.
This link was mentioned in another thread, it should do the trick for you.
