Hi everyone. I have a problem with the power supply of my Toshiba M305-S4820. It appears that the cord near the connector to the notebook is damaged. I have already ordered a new power supply (because this one has many other little problems) but it will take around 20 days to arrive, and I need to use my notebook earlier.
I buy a replacement connector and I am about to change it but I have a problem.
The damaged zone of the cord is right next to some kind of filter with I assume is related to RF interferences or something like that. I am not sure I can change the connector without having to extract this filter.
Does anyone know the exact function of this filter? Is it safe to use the power supply without this filter? Remember, It will only be for a couple of weeks.
I attach an image of the filter I am talking about:

The filter is usually a ferrite core which is in two halves inside that plastic housing. It absorbs free radicals along the electric line.
If you need to splice a new connector on you can do this. Make sure to reattach the ferrite cores when you are done.
You can simply use electrical tape to secure the filter to the wire.
It is safe to run it for a while without the filter, but its better to have it on

Hi,everyone actually i to have some power related problem with my dell xps m1530, the problem is sometimes when i turn my laptop on it shows that the ac adapter i m using is not compataible with my laptop and also says to call dell for an 65w adapter.

This happens every once in a while on some of my systems too.
Since about 2005, Dell has equipped all of their laptops with impedance matching technology. So if you were to install say a lenovo or hp power supply into your dell, the system would reject the power cord. Every once in a while the impedance mapping doesn't work properly and boots on battery thinking the power adapter is wrong. Their isn't really a fix for this. But you can simply boot on battery, than plug your power adapter in as the bios boots and everything will be fine.
