I'm trying to undervolt my thinkpad. Running Prime95 to test.
R50P with a banias 1.7Ghz cpu.
Currently testing out [email protected]
The problem was that with 0.812v, I would run fine for run hours, but I would leave it on overnight, come back, and find myself at the login menu (of thinkpad access connections). I would log in, and find Prime95 was not running (as in not there at all). No error messages Does this mean the machine rebooted itself ? Is this caused by undervolting ?
I had undervolted a T42 before, and never had such symptops. There if the voltage was too low, prime95 would report an error.

I've had system crashes when running the torture test. Prime95 will sometimes, but not always, pick up an error before the system crashes. So I think it likely that your computer has crashed and rebooted.

Does the compu automatically reboot when the system crashes ? Sorry I dont use windows much.

Also, what multiplier are you testing? I can't get my 1.7GHz Banias to go anywhere even close to .9v on the 17x multiplier. -

I'm using 8x (800Mhz) @ 0.828 (rebbot at 0.812).
Its a banias 1.7Ghz too, I just havent got to higher multipliers yet.
Could you post your voltages ? It'll give me a starting point. -
I currently use:
Code:6x .7v 8x .812v 10x .924v 12x 1.212v 14x 1.244v 17x 1.260v

I've had BSODs and reboots when the voltage has been too low.
I guess it depends on what instruction the CPU is processing when an electron jumps the wrong way. If it is part of the torture test then Prime95 should detect the error, but if it is something else then the OS or another application can fall over.

Dam, thats almost a 0.3v jump from 10x->12x
John, thanks, I now think it probably was the undervolting. -
You computer should reboot when it crashes, or at least that is what happened when I was undervolting on my brothers HP lappy a few times
-
Hmm, that's interesting, my computer has never done anything but freeze when the undervolt is unstable, I'm not sure why.
Problem with undervolting ?
