    Hi

Ive had my new toshiba p200-1k9 notebook for over a week now and love it
however i have a problem with copying items to the hard drives.

I have two hard drives in my computer 1# vista (C) 116GB and
2# Data (E) 114GB. hard drive number one (C) is where all of the program files etc are stored, and hard drive 2 (E) is empty.

This morning i connected an external hard drive and memory stick to the
computer to copy a few files on to the hard drives, however when i right click on the files and select send to, my computers hard drives dont show on the computer, as this is my first computer and am still getting use to everything i have no idea what to do and how to fix it.

So could anyone tell me what you think the problem might be
    and how to fix it?

    Thankyou

you are aware that there is about 6 million different ways to move/copy files, right?

are you saying that your problem is that files REFUSE to move/copy or that your problem is that your only tried one method to move/copy files and it didn't work?

When i copy files i always right click over the folder, select send to, and copy the files to where ever i want to move them to.

The files dont refuse to move/copy, both hard drives just dont show up
in the send to menu which makes me unable to even to try to copy them.

As i said im still a pc novice so what other ways are there to copy items from an external hard drive to a notebook hard drive, bare in mind i would still like to fix the current problem i have?

"My send to" has the same problem as you. I never noticed as I have never tried to do this way. Notebookyoozer pretty much said it. The way I do is open Windows explorer. Sometimes I even open up two to make easier. I just drag and drop where I want it to go. When transferring many times I want to keep the original so I do a right click (not left) when I move and let go it asks me do I want to "move" or "copy" left does not give that option. I am in the habit of doing the right click because it gives me choices. I don't think there is any problem you are just doing it incorrect.

Right click on the files you want copied, click on COPY in the menu that pops up, go to the destination you want to files to be copied to, right click anywhere on the destination, and select PASTE from the pop up menu.

Ive just tried the copy and paste option with a small file and was able
to copy no problem, but would i be able to do this with large files of 50GB?

50 MB fine, but 50 GB could hit problems since I think the operating system has a maximum file size of around 2GB.

    Methinks you meant 50MB.

Methinks you are on top of your game, I missed that. Mr Inquisitive +

    Edit: But isn't the 2GB a FAT32 limitation?

No, i meant 50GB, if i cant copy and paste a file this size then i need to know the answer to my original question and find out
how to copy files from an external hard drive to my notebook hard drive using the "send to" option.

OK, Microsoft says Vista can handle files up to about 16 terabytes provided you have the disks formatted under NTFS.

Going back to your original question about Send to, I believe only external / removable devices show up in the Send to list.

Copy and paste in Explorer should work OK. Personally, I use Total Commander for my file management. It make it easy to copy or move files as well as sort the list in the viewer.

I haven't tried "copy and paste" with a single 50Gb file but I have used it with copying several files at once that total more than 50Gb and it worked. Give it a try. It will either work or not.
