I posted this on OCZ forums too but maybe someone here has any ideas too.

I booted from a Parted Magic DVD. Ran the fwupd command and then got the error message "drive locked".

Went to the BIOS, changed from AHCI to compatibility mode.

Ran the command again, now get "unsupported drive".

Phil, simply remove the power connector to the SSD and reconnect it. Maybe you may have to do a 'refresh' on the Parted Magic software, I'm not sure.

That should unlock the drive and let you flash it. (In AHCI mode, of course).

    Good luck.

Yeah the hot plugging was necessary. Thanks.

Maybe you've got a solution for my second Vertex as well:

When I installed it into my laptop I first tried to install Windows 7. The installer sees Disk 0 as 0.0 MB total size.

Then I tried Parted Magic. It doesn't see the SSD at all. When I tried Gnome it saw a 32.00 KiB partition.

Then I tried the cloning option from Acronis True Image. It won't let me do it.

Any suggestions on what to do?

    Hmmm...

This one is a little tougher.

Assuming it has the latest firmware installed, maybe a SE will bring it back to life?

Possibly: also, try to install it as the only drive on the system (either disconnect any other drives physically, or, try to disable them in the BIOS).

The last suggestion I can quickly think of is to try it on a different port (or even a different system) and see if it is recognized in anything you have.

Might have to RMA it, huh?

I can't even install firmware or do a SE because in Parted Magic the drive doesn't show up.

I might try my other notebook.

    thanks for the suggestions.

PS. here's what happens when i connect it through usb

If the drive doesn't show up, I believe it is RMA time. Not the first time for SF(there were full of it on Corsair/OCZ support forums) and seems that they didn't improve much in this department even for the new SF 2XXX line, unfortunately.

    Phil,

Did you proceed with 'Initializing' the drive? This should be all you need to use it normally.

Yes I clicked OK but that didn't do anything. The drive has gone back to the seller.

Hmmm, DOA huh? Well, I'd rather see that than have installed everything and start to trust the SSD and then it fails.

Hopefully, the replacement will be quick to arrive and cause no problems for you.
