Hi,
It has come to my attention that my processor downclocks on battery power as I believe most laptops do.
I was just wondering if it downclocked as soon as I unplugged the mains and whether it clocked up when I plugged the mains back in or whether I needed to reboot it whenever I was plugging anything in or out to alter processor speed?
I also wondered if you could please tell me how to stop this and what Intel Speedstop was. I understand that this process will reduce battery life but I've got a few batteries and I never use it away from mains for more than 2 hours so I'm not too bothered about this.
Thanks.

You dont have to reboot. It does this automaticly. You can control it in the Windows Powersettings.
There you can select:
Max. Battery which forces the CPU into speed step and never lets it clock up.
Battery Optimized which is sometimes called dynamic switching. The CPU clocks down when not needed and clocks up if there is CPU intensive tasks.
Max Performance which leaves the CPU at full speed even if on battery.
Battery Optimized is the best option. It saves battery and gives you power when you need it. -
