    ok I currently have a dv4170us laptop
its got a 1.73ghz pentium m dothan processor i believe

i am planning on getting a thinkpad r61 or a vostro 1500 and it will obviously have a core 2 duo processor im just wondering
for general web browsing, music, movies, occasional photoshop, note taking in class,

what kind of increase in performance should i expect
also will i need the difference between a 1.6, 1.8, or 2.0 ghz core 2 duo

    thanks in advance
ps i am kinda tight on money too, this laptop will be only for a year or two if that

I apologize! 1.6 should do fine it is fast. The 2Ghz is nice w/4MB L2 but cost, cost, cost. For your needs you don't need more.

The onlt reason why you need a 2.0GHz is if your a serious gamer, or run intensive programs, such as Video Editing, or 3D modelling. For your basic "office" related tasks, the 1.6GHz CPU will be more than enough.

Besides, for your tasks you will do, your current notebook will be more than enough, but you will benefit slightly from a Dual Core CPU.
