    Hi guys,

    Please look at these two:

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8400
    • 2.26 Ghz, Level 2 cache 3 MB, 1066MHz Front Side Bus

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache) [add $400 or $10/month1]

Could tell me which one between these two you will choose if the difference are 400$ ?

    Why is this big difference?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,
    SG

cos dell likes to rip people off.
get the p8400 and upgrade to t9300 aftermarket for less, you can sell the p8400 to make the upgrade even cheaper.

Are these two different notebooks ? If so, which ?

You surely mean T9400 right ? :D (You can't upgrade to the T9300 from the P8400)

    The T9300 - Santa Rosa

    The P8400 - Montevina

OP: You're making all the other users confused. :D

(Go with the P8400, cooler, new platform.)

The performance difference between the two is negligible.. About 5% maybe 10% but the P8400 does have 25W TDP while the T9300 has 35W. But other then that they are very similar.

The difference in clock speed is theoretical in terms of better performance and in real life performance one would be hard pressed to even see a minute difference..

Answer is simple. Save the $400!

PS Are these prices from an upgrade on the same or different laptops

I'd probably stick with the P8400. There probably isn't much of a difference but speed wise but geez! 400 bucks to upgrade 300mhz, less fsb but 3mb more of cache that's still crazy.

    Dell jumped 400 $ between :

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5750 (2.00GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache) [Included in Price]

    and

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache) [add $400 or $10/month1]

    Hope is clear now

As soon as I read the topic and I saw "$400", I was thinking "let me guess.. Dell?"

If you really want the T9300, save yourself $75 and buy it off newegg after you order the laptop:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111001

And then you can sell your T5750 on Ebay and save another $100 or so. I personally would just look at getting another laptop though, because you could really get a lot more bang for your buck elsewhere if you want the faster CPU. As far as I've seen, Lenovo doesn't even sell anything lower than the T8100 anymore.

Look at how crazy Dell is for upgrade prices: Newegg sells the retail version for $325. Dell, on the other hand, gets the OEM version even cheaper in quantities of thousands, and then charges $400 to upgrade from another chip.

    The T9300 isn't even worth $400 :)
If you could, install it yourself and Ebay the T5750 if you need the speed
