Turion is the performance class CPU, Sempron is the value range. The Turion will have a larger L2 cache which helps performance a lot, even if the actual clock speed is lower.

If you can get the actual model numbers it would tell us a lot more about the cpu's, as there have been quite a few different revisions of the CPUs. There are several Sempron 3500s, and a two Turion 1.8ghz CPUs.

Have you heard that the Core 2 Duo CPUs are "good" too? ;)

Besides the actual model numbers, it's better to mention things such as: better for what? or why exactly these two CPUs?

Although the Turion is 64-bit, whilst only some of the mobile Semprons are and the Core Duo isn't either, though Core 2 is

Err i can only find the turion and that is
AMD Turion ML 32 1.8GHz Processor
i would get a core 2 duo or something like that but i don't have the money these are tooo quite cheap notebooks with them in, so thanks anyway.
Also would that turion then be better with a radeon xpress 1100 than the sempron with a 1150? Thanks

1100 and 1150 are the same chipset, only difference is the 1100 runs at a 300mhz and the 1150 runs at 450mhz. In real world scenarios, this isn't going to translate to a hell of a lot of difference given the lack of power the graphics chip has. I'd go for the Turion based system personally.

Where to did you find that deal, is it ebuyer?

I think u should post at what you should buy forum. And state which type of notebooks u want and don't want. For the budget of 400pounds, there r still a few choice rather than the amds.

It's hard to recommend a single core processor these days...but for your budget, definitely go with the Turion over the Sempron. I think there are affordable Turion X2 and Core Duo options out there....
