I have posted a couple of similar threads on different forums. While some of the responses were helpful, I could tell that no one has tryed this.
A couple of years ago a major retailer (don't remember which one) was selling Toshiba Laptops for $299 around Christmas time. I bought one. This laptop came with 512Mb RAM which I upgraded to 2Gb. It has been a good and reliable computer.
The computer is a Toshiba Satellite L35-S2161 with a Celeron M 410 Single Core Processor. I would like to replace it with a Pentium T2060 Dual Core Processor.
Here is what I know
1. Both processors are physically the same, packaging for both is the Micro FCPGA, and both were used in L35 series laptops.
2. The processor in my laptop is replacable

3. My Toshiba Satellite L35-S2161 (needs faster processor) and the Toshiba Satellite L35-S2366 (has the processor I want) use the same BIOS versions.

I don't know if this is important or not.
What other info do I need? Is this upgrade possible?

Download CPU-Z, PC Wizard 2008 and see which chipset it has got. (ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M?)
-
This is the first time I heard about Chipset, how is this important?
Please tell me more
One other thing I've discovered (don't know if its important), in the CPU-Z picture, in the technology section shows "65 nm". The processor I want to use lists the same "65 nm" on the intel website.
So does the new chip have to have the same chipset? Tell me more please. -
Think of it as a chassis of car, where it is the underlying feature that allows to build a fast racing car. -
I don't know? I already found 4 possible chipsets and you only ruled out 1. RS415. 200m support from P4 to C2D. But not clear if yours does and I still don't know your exact chipset. It is looking like yours might. If we find it does though. If you are going to do might want to aim higher than 2060 unless you already have.

The Pentium T2060 is the best processor that I've seen available in the Toshiba L35 series laptop. Thats why this is the biggest chip I've considered. The Pentium T2250 is of similar architecture. So your saying that it would be a better choice?
I will post a link later, (I found it late last night) where someone said he replaced a Celeron M 410 with a Pentium T2250. (I saved that link on my home computer, I currently at work)
I just wanna let everyone know, I am NOT looking for a "100% yes this will work", Instead I just want to make reasonable and informed decision based on facts
Thanks for your replies, It is appreciated. I will post the link later this evening so that you may review it. -
Found the link

Please reveiw it, again I wanna make an informed decision based on facts -
Looks like a T2450 would work, and is the highest capable processor in your L35. The key here is the socket which is 479(same as Yonah or Merom), but you are restricted to 533Mhz FSB. 667mhz processors will not work unfortunately.
-
Does the Toshiba system have an ATi sticker? Does it read Xpress 1150 or is it Xpress 200M?
-
D3X, 1150 means you have AMD CPU (and RS485 chipset which he does not have). I know cause I have. 1250 is Intel.
The FSB issue I don't know about but think you are correct. And I do think he has X200m, not any variation. -
I think AMD/Ati failed big time with the naming nomenclature and specification/cpu support here. This information should not be this elusive. -
I had to finally do some work at work. Imagine that. Anyway here is some additional info.
It says ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series
So does this mean that I need to order me a CPU??? -
I read somewhere, that the ATI Radeon Express 200M chipset for Intel CPUs does not support Core 2 Duo, only Core Duo or maybe something lower.
-
The Processor I wanna use is the Pentium Dual-Core T2060. It's not a Core 2 Duo. The main reason I am considering this Processor is the fact that its the best Processor I seen in the Satellite L35 series laptops.
I wonder if the Satellite L35-2366 used the same ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M.
My Satellite L35-S2161 uses ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M version #8.203.0.0 because it has Windows XP.
If My Satellite L35-S2161 had Windows Vista then the Driver Version would be #8.31.100.3.2, which is the same driver used by the Satellite L35-S2366 which was only available with Windows Vista.
All of you have been a big help, I am really beginning to believe that this upgrade is possible
I thank all those that have responded.
PLEASE POST any more info that you feel is relevant. I have one more question that I will post later -
It looks like the T2060(T2050 with less cache) will work in your L35, but on that note, there is no reason the T2450 won't work if the T2050/T2060 works. On the specs, they are the from the same series except for the faster clock speed, they have the same socket, operating frequency and even cache levels. So I suggest getting the T2450, or at least the T2250, as it'll be a greater performance improvement over the T2050, the price should be no more than $100.
The L35-2366 must use the same chipset, there is no reason to actually ship a completely different chipset under the same model lineup. The number differences are likely because of different versions with different processor and harddrive configs. -
Again, I thank all those that took the time to help me out. I am on a strict budget so I will see what I can find.
Now my final question, when I first boot the computer with a new CPU in it, is there anything special I should KNOW?
Time to go CPU Hunting. -
I guess that I should keep everyone posted on whats going on. The T2450 is just way to expensive. I did locate and order a T2250 today. I should get it next week some time.

I should Keep you all up to date, it works
