    Hello,
This is my first post. I started looking into upgrading my processor when I found out that my current processor doesn't support Virtualization. I did a lot of research and 'believe' I know what processors I can upgrade to. But Step 2 of that 'believe' process is to know for sure by asking knowledgable people who have actually attempted this and succeeded.

My Laptop is a Toshiba A505-S6997 I love this laptop and it does everything that I want it to.. until recently, with the whole virtualization fiasco. The specs for my laptop can be found at: http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/A500/A505-S6997 .

The cpu-z validation information is at: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1129522

Now, without knowing much about how the laptop's configured and just following voltage requirments etc I've figured out that I can most definetly use a P8600. It's a couple of hundred MHZ faster and supports virtualization. The Highest CPU that I see I can use would be the highest P9000 series, since they're all same core family as the 7000 series, only difference is the voltage requirements.

    So here are my questions..

    1. Am I actually able to upgrade this laptop?
    2. Will Virtualization be enabled automatically if there is no option for it in the BIOS, or would the BIOS actually need to have that option? (because in that case I'm a bit screwed and there'd be no point in doing this...)

If the answer to both of the above questions is a 'YES' then,

    3. What's the highest processor I am able to use?

If the anwser to above question is P9700 or better then,

    4. The voltage requirements are a little higher for those processor than the stock P7450. Would the system automatically adjust for that? would it even provide the required voltage? or would I have to do some kind pencil mod to get it to work?

    and then the final question...

    5. What's a good place to buy these mobile processors. I've only found www.ewiz.com is there any place better?

Thank you VERY MUCH in advance.

    1. Yes 100% for sure.
    2. it should get enabled if u put in a VT CPU and have latest BIOS..
    3. The Highest processor u can use is T9900(3.6GHz) which u can get cheaply at Hp spare parts store for about $300.
    4. Yes it should.. you also shouldn't have any problems with T9900.. just make sure u properly seat it and apply thermal paste.

5.The best sites for u to buy would be hp spare parts store, www.Newegg.com www.amazon.com or ebay.

but see the stepping of the CPU.. it shouldn't be QS or ES as they're illegal engineering samples..which shouldn't be sold.

    Sean,
Thank you very much for the response. As soon as I get the budget to do this, I will and then post the success/failure story so others can learn. Once again, thank you.
