Battery life is a huge factor for me, and i know turions have better battery life. Would any of these be worth it? or should i just get the extended life 6cell for 30 bucks which adds about 30 minutes.

edit- the computer is already bought- im sending it back to get fixed + upgraded. i paid 549 for the HP dv5z

Actually, Intel processors have better battery life. Depending on your budget, you might want to look into the HP and Dell business notebooks ($879 for a bare bones E6400 with a 5-6 hour battery life). Consumer notebooks really don't hold a candle to business ones sometimes...

I think the RM-70 will be good, and more efficient than the QL-60. I think 50 bucks is fine for it, considering that it will be covered under warranty.

You can undervolt your CPU as well, to reduce the load temps and improve battery life.

ok thank you thats what i was looking for...

50 bucks seems worth it for you.. any more opinions?

im running the athlon right now, it does everything i need it for but was wondering if the prices on these are rip-offs and/or worth going for an upgrade.

Difference in performance and power efficiency will be hard to notice. Though the RM70 does have a slightly lower TDP than the QL60.

Is the dealer/manufacturer upgrading the CPU ?

lol....I dunno. As I said, it'll be hard to notice a difference, though R M and Z M are generally more power efficient than T L and Q L CPUs.

    $50 isn't really a big amount, so..erm..flip a coin! :D

might as well.. if its even that much more power efficient at least im helping the environment!

i was reading about the puma architecture on the turion ultras...but it doesnt seem worth 125$..

The only diffference between the regular RM Turions and the Ultra's is the extra 1MB total L2 cache otherwise they are similar. If the difference in price between the highest RM and the lowest ZM series processor is $25 - 50 then it might be fine to upgrade but if its greater than that then done worry about it since you are not loosing much by getting the RM seties Turions.

BTW, the RM Turions can also be considered as being Puma as well as long as the system has the HD3200 GPU (or dedicated ATi GPU) and M780G chipset which the dv5z has.

the biggest difference is that you CANNOT undervolt the AMD ATHLON X2 QL-60 ...

at least i'm not aware that you can... but keep in mind that i've only searched the internet on how to do it, and i'm not an expert at undervolting things haha

i'm actually tempted in buying the ZM-82 or w/e the name was and replacing my QL-60 on my TX2500

The QL can be undervolted. See this thread in TPRC...
    http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=21877&page=11

Pumastatectrl works on the Puma platform(Athlon QL, Turion RM & ZM). It is quite rudimentary but unfortunately its the only app which can undervolt the Puma series processors as of now...
