I know this is a laptop forum, but I'm sure many here have built their own PCs - my question is, should I go w/ an Intel Quad core 2.4ghz, or a faster Duo Core (have $200 USD to spend on the processor)?
Also, is the 8800 GT a good card? I found the 512mb DDR3 version ("factory superclocked," which I assume means overclocked) for $165 USD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=8800GT
Trying to build a decent PC for under $1000 USD...

Could wait for Nehalems to come out. Quad Core would prolly be the better one to get in terms of pricing.
8800GT is a great card. Not as good as 8800GTX Ultra, but thats like 649+ bucks right there. -
The q6600 at 2.4Ghz is a very nice processor, with a good motherboard and good memory you can overclock it up to 3.6Ghz if you wanted to.
The q6600 should be in the $200-230 ballpark, and since it is great at overclocking you can push it to 2.6-2.8Ghz without much effort.
The 8800Gt is also a good card, but the new ATi ones are a better value. They are generally much more powerful within the same price ranges.
Superclocked means that it is factory overclocked.
If you plan on overclocking, you should look at a motherboard which uses the P35 or X38 chipset since they are both good overclocking boards.
For memory, go with ddr2, since ddr3 is a complete rip off, and get memory which has a nice heatspreader and a lifetime warranty.
