I read a post that suggested a processor may be too fast to play some games. I'm wanting to play Morrowind with my new laptop that's on the way.

The system specs are as follows:
    -2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo 2 (800MHz, 4MB)
    -256 Nvidia 8600M GT
    -7200 RPM 160GB HDD

Will I have any issues playing Morrowind, D2, SC and other older games? If so is there any way to fix this?

    Thanks,
    -Taylor

If you have any problems, it will be with the Operating System, rather than your hardware. There is no such thing as a processor that's "too powerful".

Yeah, Morrowind and d2 will run just fine on your computer. If worst comes to worst you can always run stuff in windows 2000/98 compatibility mode.

Well, the system comes with Vista Home (ICK!) I plan to buy the XP Pro (OEM) for gaming and general use.

Thanks guys you have helped with my worries,

Well, a processor can be "too fast" to play games like the original dos based Alladin/PacMan etc, assuming you can get them to run on vista. :p Those games directly related to the cpu's clock, and would run like the wind ... I doubt you had these games in mind, though.. :sarcastic:

Try playing an older game like the original Command and Conquer, the game runs at 1000x the normal speed.

Actually...there was this one time I was playing one of those old old mortal kombat-type games designed for a x386 where you couldn't cap the frame-rates from way back on my desktop, and it just went waaaay too fast to play. By the time I could react I was already dead :p

EDIT: funny, 3 posts saying the same thing :p

You have a solid system that will run old and new games well.

haha so true. I was playing C&C in Dos and one of the neutral units that barely does any damage destroyed my whole base before i could react. The funny thing is I was playing vs my friend over the network. We were both like WTF just happened, we loaded a couple of games before we could figure out what was happening.

Yes, you will have a problem.......but only with Morrowind :p. It is quite possibly the worst coded game in the world. You could be running a 16-core 8.0ghz CPU with 20GB of ram and Geforce 12800Ultra's in SLI and still only get 30FPS. The engine is just so crappy......lol. But in all seriousness, your laptop is identical to one of my friends and it can max out most games at 1280x800. You'll be fine.
