i was thinking about buying the dell xps m 1330 notebook but i dont know which processor i should opt for, because they are harder to upgrade later
but dont have the budget to buy the fastest one right now.

    i have the following question,

does the processor clock speed matter?
they are all intel core2duo processors, so will the 1.8 or 1.5 ghz processor be really worse than the 2.0ghz one.

    how worse can they be?

i will be using this laptop for programming, movies, music and occasional gaming and very rare video encoding

the 1.8 ghz processor fits in my budget just right
will it deliver the required performance? or should i opt for an upgrade?

Yes. 1.8ghz will be good enough for your needs. Use the money you would have put into processor upgrades into more RAM or the 8400GS -- you'll see a greater return in performance for the money on those.

    What kind of performance?

For my everyday computing, for example, dual-core 1.8 GHz is more than enough.

The T7100 (1.8GHz) is plenty, I agree. You're not doing anything that would require a faster processor.

Most people greatly over estimate the amount of processing power they need. To be honest, I think you should settle for a 1.5Ghz GPU, and have a GeForce 8400 Go GPU. The 8400, over the Intel GMA X1300, will have a far higher increase in performance that a CPU with a slightly faster clock speed.
