On my new Inspiron I went with the 160GB @ 7200 RPM as opposed to the 320GB @ 5400RPM; although it is plenty speedy, after installing all of my programs and the OS, I have a bout 100GB left; although this is ibvously more than enough, should I want to install a few new games, I have a feeling that this may dwindle fairly quickly.
Can you boot programs (or games) from external hard drives? I could see why this would be a difficult thing to do, but is there any way to possibly do this?

I tried on my WD MyBookPremium and got no joy, so now I use it for storage.

I have no problems booting games etc. from my external. Some programs even allow me to run on different machines as they do not require a registry key.

It depends. If the program is older or does not use much swapping it should run ok. I use my WD passports with some really old stuff, but for any game made in the last couple of years it is not too fast.
Programs on external hard drives?
