Hi there,
I'm sensitive to LCD/CRT screens and was wondering if I could instead hook my notebook up via HDMI to a decent HD Projector for everyday use.
Realistically, with a good quality projector, do you think it'll be usable for everyday tasks and some web development/photoshop?
Sorry for the rather odd question, but I visit this forum daily and value the info people have here.![]()

Well, for an external projector i'd recommend a VGA cable, but HDMI would work.

using a projector as your primary screen works fine. I use a Ben-Q unit regularly when doing website maint. DVI, HDMI, VGA cable it dont matter just as long as the projector and laptop have comptatble input / outputs.
VGA TO VGA
HDMI or DVI to HDMI or DVI .. they are the same darn thing just HDMI supports transmitting audio through the cable at the same time.
Dont bother with S-Video as MOST units transmit lousy images and scaling. -
We have a 720p projector in our apartment that I use HDMI to connect to all the time. It works great. Beware though, it's much more expensive to find a highres projector.

How long can a projector bulb lasts if used everyday for an average of say, 10hrs/day?
-
300days, I believe the average bulb will last about 3000hours.
what do you mean your sensitive to LCD/CRT? are they just to small? -

Just want to add that critical (colour) PS work meant for printed output will be next to impossible.
I know you can calibrate a projector, but you can't calibrate the brightness of one, afaik.
This distinction is important because with the brightness set properly (around 100-110 cd/m^2) this matches the tonal response of paper much better and gives you a better wysiwyg in PS editing.
Cheers!
