Will I prolong the life time of my laptop screen if I set it up to half or less than full brightness?

I don't think I have ever heard anything about being able to prolong the life of a Laptop screen by dimming down the brightness. So I would guess it does not make much of a difference being fully bright or half bright.

But there is always someone out there who knows more than me. :D

I'd imagine the difference would be negligible.

The processors are far more likely to fail first.

You might prolong the backlight and inverters life by half dimming it.. but not the LCD screen itself.

1- Use as dim as possible
2- Turn-off the screen if you are going to the kitchen ;)

dimming the screen and such will not prolong the lifetime of the screen, it will only prolong the lifetime of the backlight and the inverter.
The screen itself - well just take care of it and dont drop your laptop and the screen should be fine.

As K-Tron and the previous poster stated. The actual back light, whether it be CCFL or LED, is separate from the liquid crystal display.

Backlighting has no effect on actual display therefore it would not increase the life span. :)

Well, that is a tricky word.

I think "life time of laptop screen" does not mean the LCD itself but rather LCD + CCFL (or Led) + Inverter altogether. And since the CCFL and the inverter are the most error prone parts, I would use dimming as a way of increasing the lifetime of screen...
