Hi, I was thinking about upgrading/replacing a panel for my Lenovo T61. I looked at both a regular online retailer as well as an eBay retailer. In your experience, is it a good idea to purchase an after-market part like an LCD panel from an eBay shop versus somewhere like screentek? The eBay retailers are considerably less expensive, but I would like to make a good choice since I have had so many problems with screens for this Lenovo already.

EBay has the 15.4" WSXGA+ for about $195.00 (price without shipping and handling). ScreenTek has the actual part numbers listed, same res, for $425.00, but you can choose the manufacture - AUO, LG, or Samsung.

    Thanks

I guess it would depend....Is there a specific manufacturer (Lg, AUO) that you are trying to avoid? (have bad screens)...or are they all the same quality (no notorious "grain")?

If it dosn't matter which brand you get...and The ebay retailer has good ratings (*about that specific product!)...then they both seem like safe bets.

Also, you're probably voiding your warrenty, incase you didn't already know (i'm sure you did)

*Sometimes good feedback on ebay is for products/service they no longer have....so make sure you see some good words about LCD's, or Screens, or computer parts

I really would hate to void the warranty if all the nonsense with nVidia is true - have a Quadro card. The ebay shop had good ratings, I would like to avoid the Samsung screen if at all possible. But I have had problems with my LG and dust particles in the laminate.
