I might buy a Q9000 but want to know if it worth it. I video edit, photo edit, game and do you know normal stuff. (Music, web browsing, homework). I've asked in the Adobe forums and they've said that I could run PPro CS4 well with an external eSATA drive as my HDD would be my bottleneck.
Saying that should I buy the Q9000? or stick with my P8600 and upgrade in a year or 2?
Thanks.

Definitely the quad. Quads are for people who do a lot of encoding and editing.
As for gaming, most games do not require all that much CPU power, so the inferior clockspeed of the Q9000 will not be a problem whatsoever. -
Will it make other apps run slower though?
-
No, most day-to-day apps won't even utilize the full speed of one core, so it's fine. You won't notice a difference.

I had a laptop with a q9000, it was blazing fast, but i returned it to get a thinkpad for the battery life and mobility. I had a sager NP5797 before, it sucked as a portable computer, but was an amazingly fast computer.

i could run test if wanted

I'd take a look at the Q9100 over the Q9000.

In most places, the price for the Q9100 over the Q9000 makes it not worth it for the marginal speed increase.
