Is Q9000 (2.0ghz) + 650 GB 7200 RPM worth $120 over the P8700 (2.5ghz) + 230 GB 7200 RP?
I am huge on multitasking, multimedia, editing/rendering, burning etc...
It's impossible to watch a movie and work on Photoshop right now on my core duo 2.0ghz..sigh.

Yea I think so. The quad core would do wonders on those tasks.

Seconded..

lol same question going through my head cept with the G51Vx-A1 vsing G51Vx-X1A. i dunno which to pick although im more of a gamer as opposed to a photoshopper. keep in mind though that the C2Q can be generously OCed to around 2.4-2.5GHz.

Quad, hands down.

Ok, so quad core gives 25-30% increase over a dual core with similar clock speeds.

Which is nowhere near the 2x that some thinks but still significant. 30% difference in performance translates into roughly around 40% in clock as performance doesn't scale 100% with clock speed. -

Definitely worth it. With your interest in multimedia and edititing/rendering you will need that extra storage and processing power. Some people on here have managed to clock it beyond 2.5ghz, making it a very decent budget quad.

What about gaming? I'm also choosing between the two and i'm not sure,
which will perform better when it comes to gaming. I heard the P8700
can be OC from 2.5 - 2.9GHz, but with the q9000 i'm unsure. -
It won't matter with laptops really. Unless you got an SLI System.
both processors wold do fine.
I'm guessing you're either getting a 15 or 17, and the 640gb is actually 320gb 7200rpm x 2.
think about this way: *as long you have the same gf xcard
quad core - gives you option for more multitasking + better performances in graphics rendering that requires CPU. Still play games with probably same FPS because your CPU won't be a bottleneck.
Have you considered notebooks with i5 Processors? -
Q9000 vs P8700 ($120 difference?)
