Hellow folks,
I currently bought the Toshiba Satellite A300-1G5 for a steal price![]()
I am looking to upgrade to Harddisk from this that is currently in it:
Newegg.com - TOSHIBA MK2552GSX(HDD2H02) 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
to this one:
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Spinpoint MP4 HM500JJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
My QS is that the current HD is SATA 1.5Gb/s and the new one is SATA 3.0Gb/s. Will the new HD go to 1.5Gb/s speed or will it run on the full 3.0 Gb/s speed.
Pls help me as I really don't want to waste $75 if it is going to run slow.
Thanks and seeking your help.

It depends on the chipset of the Toshiba laptop. It must support SATA II to support the speed of the new harddrive.

How can I know if it does? I have HWinfo32, do you need any screenshot of anything and what.
Thanks a lot -
The chipset is : Intel GM965 (Crestline-GM) + ICH8M

its SATA II i think.. anyways , a SATA II drive can run on SATA I speeds although there is little difference as the drive anyways can't use full SATA II bandwidth.. get the samsung.. it certainly will be way better than the toshiba,
QS for help:Sata Interface and my laptop
