    Hello,

    the dvd-ram drive of my qosmio g35-av600 suddenly died, it would not read anything so i went ahead and buy a replacement ( the model is UJ-856-C) but when i changed the drive and boot the pc i get an error saying cd-rom error ( i saw in another forum that it has to be with slave-master config), could someone please help me? also im running ubuntu 8.04.

    Thank you very much, any help would be appreciated.

    you will need to contact the CD DRIVE manufacturer to get the correct firmware to flash the drive...

    if the drive is the exact same model,, the notebook manufacturer may be of help... but i'd stick w/ the drive maker....

    also try searching for info at cdfreaks.com

    EDIT::

    all flash files i've used in the past worked thru DOS... so ya may need to make a bootable CD or Floppy of say a WIN98 boot disk.... don't know how it would react to linux

    thank you Bigozone, i think i'll need to install windows using a usb drive, then "flash" the drive even though i still dont understand how and cdfreaks didnt help much, but still thank you very much for your help.
