I have a Toshiba Qosmio x505-Q887 that is running at around 60 C untill I attempt to run any game, then it quickly heats up to 80 C and if the game has a lot going on (which can be often) it will rise to 90 C + and shut down. I have upgraded my BIOS to 2.9 (most recent version to the best of my knowledge).

I am running CPUID to monitor my heat, the computer was just returned from a repair service due to a broken keyboard, while it was there the repaiman pulled out the fans, cleaned everything well, replaced the heat conductive gel/paste and has stated that the cooling system is running as well as it possibly can. I trust this repair service, many of my friends have used him and I have never had an issue with his honesty.

I am currently using a large cooling pad and it seems to be helping, but my temps are still running higher than I feel they should be.

I have had this computer for 2 years and it has not had any overheating problems untill recently. It has been to Iraq twice and Afghanistan twice, so I know it can handle the heat!

Any advice or suggestions are welcome, I love this computer and can not afford a new one anyway, so I need to get to the root of this problem.

    2 years!
You should open it and clean the fans with a canned air or something like this.
Maybe if you have enough experience ,you can try repasting.

    Good luck :)

It was just re-pasted and the entire cooling system was cleaned, still having the over heating issue though it is not as bad as before.

ANd as I look at the calendar... it will actually be 2 years in December, lol. But still, quite a while and a LOT of mileage on it.

Oh sorry I didn't read well, so maybe it's a bad repaste job. Is the machine hard to disassemble ?

Edit : My machine used to overheat like hell, 90C after 30 seconds of Furmark. I dismantled the whole laptop, cleaned the heatsink and the fan very well using a toothbrush, repasted using MX-4 after googling for a week about the best repasting technique. Once I finished my GPU didn't pass 66C in Furmark. My CPU temps were alot better as well.
