For me, I'm getting about 48-50C idling and 76-79C under load, I'm not exactly satisfied with it, or am I expecting too much?

I really feel like getting some thermal paste to replace this OEM crap, and hopefully i can get around 5C drop? Maybe something like IC Diamond 7

    What are your i7 idle/load temps? (720,740,820,840,920,940)

    Just curious

What is the load? A game, or what?

I don't have an i7 myself, but those temps actually look about average for idling, and pretty good for load. Although I think most people use Prime or Furmark to achieve their load temps, so that would probably account for the larger difference. The i7s have had higher idle temps on average than the previous C2Ds. You also might want to note your ambient temperatures; that can have a significant effect.

Those temps are not really all that bad. My 920 idles at 48-50 and with a heavy load 80-85. I have the stock paste as well. my numbers are on a NC2000 cooler which improves my numbers by about 2 degrees. my ambient is in the range of 20-23.

Those temps are fine. Hyperthreading bumps up the temps a little bit so that's probably why you're getting more than you might expect. I see similar temps on my i5.

i idle at 48-52C and 76C at most in load.. due to ICD7! Of course your VAIO doesn't have as good cooling as my asus so really you can't expect any better temps than your getting now..

Those temps are more than ok. Just don't push past 90 at load too often and you're good to go.
