Is it possible to put a mobile quad core into the Gateway P6860FX? Can I tweak the BIOS, or does the chipset just not support it?

Also, can I put this into the laptop?

Your laptop runs Socket P santa rosa processors (800MHz FSB). The fastest processor I have seen in that notebook is the X7900 and the X9000.
The X9000 is the fastest processor your laptop supports.

Here are some processors which will work:
    T7500, T7700, T7800, X7900, T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500, X9000

You cannot put a T9600 in your laptop and you cannot install any quad core processor in your laptop.

I'm sorry to say, but that simply won't work with your system. You could try what K-tron has suggested, those are pretty strong processors that are compatible for your system.
