Well I'm really on the verge of dropping a grand for a 7908u. Just wondering if this has quad support? I checked the motherboard and it states that it does have support for q9000 to qx9300. PM45 Chipset. A lot of people are saying it doesn't even though some models have it?

If you can order it with a quad core processor then it will support it.

Are there different sub-models of the 7980? I know Asus pulls things like that, with the G51vx-RX05 Best Buy model and X1A and X2A Newegg models being unable to accomodate quads, but the A1 online reseller can.

I will be purchasing the newegg version which is the 7908u, the best buy has the 7915u. There is a version 7901h which has the q9000, same exact as 7908u but has a q9000 compared to p8700. I want to make sure that it does support quads.

I'm getting a sinking feeling that it might not. You've tried google and lurking the Gateway forums, I assume?

There is a newegg review that says or the way I'm interpreting it is that he swapped the p8700 for a Q9200. I've tried google, but haven't checked the gateway forums didn't know they existed.

I meant the NBR Gateway board.

And I looked at the review. Seems like you can, but you should crosscheck.

My PM45 supported it, although the notebook wasn't shipped in a quadcore version. The only thing is the AWFUL battery life if I don't watch my "P's 'n Q's" when actually needing it to last longer than an hour. I have to change the speedstep settings in the Win7 power control panel to where it only uses up to a maximum of 30-40 percent of maximum processor power to get something that will last a whole class. But I actually just got my new (lol.. used, but new to me) P8800 so I can use my notebook more around campus and on job sites. Now I just have to put it in... spare time is rare these days!
