I would like to install a new CPU on my hdx(I currently have T6600). I'm thinking about getting the Q9100, which is a P socket Quad core. According to the Intel website it is compatible with my motherboard (P45M chipset.) The TDP however is 45W - 10 more than the T6600. Will the quad-core work or should I just got with the 35W T9900? Thanks!

Your range must have supported a quad in one of the models and not have multiple motherboard revisions You will likely need the quad core model heatsink too.

You're right. Some HP HDX 18 models had a quad core CPUs.

This is a heat-sink from a quad core hdx:
    HP 496894-001 Heat Sink & Fan Module HDX X18-1000 X18T-1000 X18T-1200 | eBay

And this one is from and hdx16:

They look the same, except for a slight difference in model numbers.

I'd actually be more worried about BIOS support. As the HDX 16t was never offered with a Core 2 Quad, it probably won't even POST if you drop a quad core CPU in there (although there's no way to know for sure unless you try it out). A search seems to yield no results for any successful quad core replacements. Heating and power supply is also another consideration, as Meaker mentioned.

Thank you gentlemen. I think I'll just go with the T9900 or maybe the X9900 and do some OCing.
