I'm having a rough time deciding a balance with GPU/CPU

I need a intensive gpu for CAD modeling/rendering, but the 3600m is only available in dell's 6300m and hp compaqs 8710w

I was wondering if I chose a Sager 9262 (blackhawk from pcmicroworks), with the single 8800m gtx (or possibly the quadro 1600m???),
    with a quad 45nm q9450,
    4gb 800mhz ram,
    640gb(2 x 320 @5400rpm)--- all at around ~$3200

would it outperform the hp's 8710w with:
    quadro 3600m
    with a core 2 duo t9300
    4gb 667 mhz
    with only a 250gb @ 5400rpm--- at a expensive ~$4,400...

I don't know if i can justify the huge price difference, I really need the 3600m quadro card but its just such an insane price difference which I can't pay

---the quadro card's specialize in opengl which is great for real time rendering, correct? and the processor specializes in rendering?

the benchmarks for the quad core w/ penryn is extremely higher than the duo t9300...

is there a chance of the 3600m coming to sager 9262(or the 5793 if possible) within the next month? I need it by late july/extremely early august

I've been researching NBR for months, im in a standstill with new information...

It completely depends upon what you use i for specifically, and if your CAD program supports multi threading. If your program is heavily parallel (multi threaded), it will preform better on the quad core Sager. If not, it will probably work better on the HP. Either way, you should go with a Quadro line GPU, not GeForce.

if i chose the quadro 1600m for the sager 9262 (or even the sager 5793, which i like better) do you know if I will be able to upgrade to the quadro 3600 when it comes out? my other choice was the 5793 with a overclocked core 2 duo extreme x9000

satch420, FX 3600M will be available on NP9262 soon, maybe even NP5793.
don't get x9000 if you are going for 5793, get a T9300 and you can safely overclock to 3.1Ghz (3.2 max)

so pcmicroworks is having a 'power up' sale this weekend, and they are guaranteeing no lower prices for the next three months

would this be a good time to buy? I would like to get set up before school starts up, taking a pretty intensive maya class mid august

    I'm between:

    pcmicroworks blackhawk xr5: ($3200.00)
    core 2 quad q 9450
    4 gb 800mhz ram
    960 gb 3x 320gb @ 5400rpm
    nvidia quadro 1600m
    17" HD WUXGA+ 1920x1200

    vs

    sager 5793: ($2578.00)

    core 2 duo t9500 (only $30 more from a t8300... weird)
    4gb 800mhz ram
    200gb @7200rpm
    nvidia quadro 1600m
    17" HD WUXGA+ 1920x1200

so i suppose its just a question of mobility vs power... but my main question is will that 9262 setup be still top of the line in the next couple of months, should I buy now or wait till the 3600m comes out for them...

I know this doesn't really belong in this thread anymore, it actually should be in a bunch or them, but since it started here I suppose it can just keep going

    also--- raid 0 vs raid 5 with 3x 320gb @ 5400rpm
    and--- 3x 200gb @7200rpm each vs 3 x 320gb at 5400rpm each
-- the price difference isn't that much, which setup in storage would be faster/ for constant editing, like in cad programs such as 3sdmax and maya

sorry for the constant bickering, let me know any suggestions as this sale ends sunday

    Thank ya

Er, seeing as the 9262 uses desktop procs, is montevina relevant?

well i suppose montevina is only relevant towards my consideration of the 5793, which I still am strongly considering

anyone have any insight when the 5793 comes out with montevina/quad core support(right?)/ will the prices be similar to the 9262 with quad cores?

I have till the end of the night(sunday night) to make a decision, pcmw is having a huge sale on their blackhawk (9262) with top of the line everything still around $3500.00

I think I should wait as I like the body of the 5793 much more, is that a good idea? I just need a notebook with quad core (preferably q9450) by end of july.

will the price of the 5793 in a couple of months with montevina be around 3500?

please help... this is the last of my questions if i don't purchase tonight for a couple of months

@satch420, mobile quad is coming out in Q4 this year, I think they will change the model number to 5794 once montevina is release, but probably same price which is $2000-2500, depends on your config.
