    Hi all,

    I'm new here so...

I wanted to ask you guys, specifically those with a Quadro FX3700M inside your laptop (though any G92M GPU based users really) whether your card makes squeaky noises when stressed? I'm not sure for a better term, the sound doesn't sound normal by any means, electronic in tone etc.

For example, if you run 3DMark 03, 05, 06, Vantage, a modern game perhaps, can you hear any abnormal noises?

    Thanks a lot.

A client's machine with that card does not make such noises (Dell M6400 over a year old now).

Is it possible you're hearing something else? Some people can hear their SSD's when stressed...

    Good luck with more/better answers.

    niffcreature,

I guess too old - but I also didn't run any games or benchmarks on it either. ;)

Yeah, its very high pitched and pretty quiet.

My power adapter when its unplugged makes a high pitched noise that I consider to be loud and annoying. My mom whose 50 cant hear it at all, but I read that super high noises like that start to be inaudible to people older than 25 or something.

Its the same with ability to see in the dark. Its a rapid decline.
    anyway...

LaptopUser: Its not a nasty kind of squeaking though, right?

Try Furmark, that will really make a more uniform noise  its a sort of a phasing/ sine pitch wave where its higher pitched under the most load (when you can see the entire circle)

As far as whether this is good or bad, I think its fine, although it does mean the card isn't as efficient when as it could be.
The only thing that bothers me about it is when I do something and it make a constant pitch until I minimize a window or something... or actually when I flex certain parts of my chassis, thats the only real disturbing thing...

    Yeah, that's it - I'm just over 25 (or something). :)

Glad I can't hear those (annoying) sounds anymore (I used to...).

I'm pretty into white noise... as a cultural byproduct... but sometimes it really makes me think, in a sad pollution like way... What if dogs can hear 2.4ghz Wifi? Pretty unlikely, but I bet there are a billion things animals hear that we don't even know about, from electronics, that are incredibly loud to them...

    Edit: holy crap

    Thanks for all your answers.

It's a high pitched sound, changing in tone depending on the scene. I find 3DMark03 is actually worse than 05/06/Vantage, the sound is more prominent even though the card get's taxed less (DirectX8 code path can't be as taxing though the noise suggests otherwise).

It's the first time I've experienced it in a notebook.

Just trying to pin down what it is, I've had the motherboard changed and this is the third FX3700M so I'm leaning towards the thought of it being a dud series of these cards by Nvidia, Foxconn, whoever makes them.

Would be great if some Geforce M260, M280, M285 GTX owners post some feedback. It's the same GPU, G92M, as such all these cards should be making likewise noises. If not then I guess it's only proof that it is a faulty card after all.

P.S. BTW, this is in a Lenovo W700

    Thanks again.

    Yes mine does too.

It's worse when you have a higher frame rate. Try running ATItool, that thing will be at around 400fps or something, really annoying.

I've been told it's just the chokes.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you're playing a game, try increasing the settings so that your frame rate will go down.

    Theres nothing faulty about it.

Maybe you should try it at 600/1500/900 ;) I think that made mine quieter...

    Thanks again.

If they can't fix it then it looks like I'll have to live with it and convince myself it's natural. As I'm one who believes black is black and white is white this may require some effort :p

The memory is -11 so 1800MHz down-clocked to 1600MHz effective.

Did you flash the BIOS to set the memory or just used EVGA Precision software (or similar)?
